Chicken Soup and Curanderas

I find the role culture plays in health care fascinating. Who doesn’t crave a bowl of hot chicken soup when feeling down in the dumps? Some perhaps even eat their apple a day, feeling confident that it will keep the doctor away. And I’m pretty sure many of us have our favorite teas and culinary concoctions we rely on when feeling specific ailments. Yet many of these practices are rooted more in culture than they are in science. Some of these panaceas are nothing more than placebos.
